摘要

Historically, drug shortages have been prevalent in some financially non-attractive domains like orphan drugs, or in some non-profitable countries like developing countries. But, since 2007, drug shortages are ramping up in all disease domains and in all countries and have begun to affect familiar, often life-threatening, medications. This Editorial describes the extent, impact and causes of drug shortages and presents existing initiatives to tackle drug shortages.
