Freedom of movement at fallowing has sparked some pretty fierce debate, If it ain't broken, why fix it? is the question from many a vexed traditionalist. But are there systems which promise performance advantages without losing the control of the traditional crate? A farrowing system developed in Germany appears to hold such promise. It combines the best points of the traditional crate with freedom of movement for the sow.
