If you don't take 20 per cent off your costs, within a few years you'll be dead in the water. A sitting duck for overseas pig producers who at present have either cheap food, cheap labour or cheap housing to torpedo our present cosy market price - cosy by world standards. There are foreign producers now, who after processing and transport, could offer pork to our retail trade at about 70p a kg - if the mechanism existed to get it here. One day it will. In two years? Five years? I have no idea. But large-scale global trading in pigmeat is coming.
