摘要

Contaminated water can affect pig production in many ways. It can cause direct spread of disease such as e-coli, salmonella, ileitis, PRRS and swine dysentery. It can be responsible for persistence of infection between batches of pigs. PRRS virus cansurvive in water systems for at least 11 days. Mycoplasma hyopneumoniae (enzootic pneumonia) has been recovered from rainwater after 17 days and tap water after 31 days. Water consumption may be decreased in the herd due to poor palatability, causing lower feed intake. Poor consumption increases the risk of destabilisation of normal gut activity and bacterial flora. This can increase enteric disease, for instance ileitis. Vice may increase.
