摘要

This paper describes a newly developed AC pulsed MIG welding power source incorporating a digital welding interface for connection to a welding robot and arranged so that welding conditions such the welding current waveform parameters and the EN ratio can be adjusted by the robot teach pendant. The results obtained may be summarized as follows.The newly developed AC pulsed MIG welding power source incorporates a database of AC pulsed current waveform parameters optimized by being geared to the wire federate and provides a stable arc delivering one droplet per pulse metal transfer.By setting a waiting time (of 1.5 msec) for polarity switching from EP to EN, the appearance of tiny spatters caused by cathode spot behaviour at the wire tip can be suppressed.Low-frequency modulated AC pulsed MIG welding has been developed to provide a bead appearance with a more distinct ripple pattern than by low-frequency modulated DC pulsed MIG welding. The proposed welding method imposes a low heat input, and wide-ranging aluminium alloy sheet metal applications can therefore be expected.
