WIPO's Open Day featured a lively and insightful public debate on intellectual property (lP) and the environment. Moderated by WIPO Director General Francis Gurry, accomplished panelists from acadernia, industry and the non-governmental sector examined the link between IP and green innovation and reflected on how the IP system can contribute to developing climate change solutions.This article offers an overview of the different perspectives presented and the key issues raised. The line?up of speakers included Prof. Jacques de Werra, University of Geneva, Mr. Philippe Boydell, DuPont European Technical Center, SWitzerland, Mr. Pedro Roffe, International Centre for Trade and Sustainable Development (lCTSD), and Ms. Maria Julia Oliva, Union for Ethical BioTrade.

The collaborations analysed span academia, civil society and government, from the grassroots to the national and global levels. By locating these examples within the broader debates on interactions between researchers and research users designed to strengthen evidence informed decision making, this publication offers concepts and practices to inform those funding, designing and undertaking development research. The featured case studies are explored through the perspectives of both researchers and their partners in civil society and policy.
