Prysmian Cables & Systems reported that it has brought an industrial plant onstream at Vila Velha in Brazil for the manufacture of subsea umbilicals, special cables used in offshore oil platforms. The company said in a press release that the new plant, some 220,000 sq ft in size, will employ about 110 people. The plant's production capacity will be between 200 and 400 Km/yr, depending upon the type and length of product, it said. It noted that the company has an existing facility in Santo Andre that will be retained as a back-up facility.
