Mycotoxins are a major threat to poultry health and production. However, because of chemical characteristics of such toxins, it is not easy to set up quality control systems that remove them from feed materials. Limiting exposure risks to animals requires two actions: Limiting the risk and level of myco-toxin exposure of animals ingesting contaminated feed. Limiting the damage that any remaining mycotoxins may cause to the animal. Mycotoxins cause significant performance and economic losses in poultry production, and taking adequate steps to control toxin exposure is essential in maintaining cost-effective production. Mycotoxicosis is related to decreased animal welfare, as many of them lead to disease, compromised immunity and unnecessary suffering.
