摘要

There is not a complete collection of native bamboo in Mexico. The first phase of the "Bamboos of the Americas" (BOTA) project, supported by the Southern California Chapter of the American Bamboo Society (ABS), is the project proposal, "Native Bamboosof Mexico". The project includes the creation of a National Collection of Bamboos in the "Franscisco Javier Clavijero" Botanic Garden of the Institute of Ecology A.C. The objectives of this collection are to maintain ex situ collection of living plantsfrom wild populations of Chiapas, Guerrero, Jalisco, Michoacan, Oaxaca, Tabasco and Veracruz, to develop a voucher collection in the XAL Herbarium as well as to create a complete database of the native bamboo of Mexico and their habitats. It is hoped todevelop resources to facilitate research and for other people interested in bamboo and improve access to updated information shared between the Institute of Ecology, A.C. and the Technological Institute of Chetumal. The next phases for this project willinclude propagation and conservation of endemic species, and systematic studies of select bamboo species.
