In Canberra at the International Year of Chemistry Launch in Australia, hosted by the RACI in February, I wondered how to present my experience of the event as an editorial offering. A summary would not do justice to the knowledge and opinions of the speakers and attendees, not to mention the optimism and enthusiasm of individuals such as the dinner's keynote speaker, Dr Deanna d'Alessandro. Communication of chemistry is my professional passion, and so I contented myself by hunting and gathering with this topic in mind.
