摘要

The 8th Japan International SAMPE Symposium and Exhibition (JISSE-8) was held in the Tokyo Big Site conference and exhibition center near downtown Tokyo. The event attracted 329 technical papers (a 40 percent increase, with most peer-reviewed), spurring expansion of the Proceeding to a two-volume, hardbound set and indicating significant growth for SAMPE Japan. Seven key Plenary Lectures set the stage, providing an excellent overview of past, present and future technology in key areas. Standout Plenary lecturers included Dr. Robert Sierakowski of the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL), who spoke about engineered materials, Airbus Industrie's Jorg Kumpfert, who discussed advanced structure technologies for the A380 and beyond, The Boeing Co.'s Mark Jenks, who reviewed 7E7 technologies, and Prof. Yin-Wing Mai of the University of Sydney (Australia), who presented information on polymer nanocomposites. The latter also were the subject of lectures by Prof. A.K. Schalarb (University of Kaiserstautern) and Prof. Morinobu Endo (Shinshu University).
