Earlier this month, new director Sarah Gaventa took up her post at CABE Space. She is a specialist in streetscapes and claims she will concentrate on the greening of our streets and squares. This, combined with continued lobbying from such bodies as the Tree Council, the Civic Trust and others, will put local authorities under increased pressure to green our highways. But they are also being compelled to cut expenditure. There seems to be only one way out of this conundrum - to design-in and specifylow-maintenance trees.
