Patrick Ellis looks at what is being done to improve children's understanding of the plant and food production processes. My job is amazing, says National Trust food and farming learning officer Liz Woodward. Co-ordinating the trust s new From Plot toPlate learning initiative has put her at the sharp end of a burgeoning drive to raise environmental awareness through the medium of horticulture. Woodward points out that working for the National Trust in this context is a big advantage. Annually attracting over 500, 000 visits per year from school groups means her employer can claim to be the biggest outdoor classroom provider in the UK.
