These proceedings contain 8 papers focusing on the status of plant breeding training in the USA and around the world. Three general topics relevant to plant breeding are discussed: (1) the kind of training that the plant breeders need, and approaches to effectively provide that training; (2) how to provide improved cultivars of minor and subsistence crops in the future; and (3) the role of the public and private sectors in the training of the new generation of plant breeders..
