In Human Ecology of Beringia, John Hoffecker and Scott Elias compile one of the most comprehensive and readable syntheses currently available on the archaeology and paleoecology of Beringia from the earliest evidence of human occupations to the beginning of the Holocene.Beringia is defined in this work as the connected lands between the Verkhoyansk Mountains (east of the Lena River) in eastern Siberia and the northwestern edge of the Laurentide ice sheet (combined with the Cordilleran glaciers along the western margin of northern North America) that prevented exchange of plants and animals between unglaciated Beringia and the rest of North America. The work reflects the combined expertise of two of the most authoritative scholars currently working in the archaeology and paleoecology of Ice Age Beringia.
