Grooving in PVC cylindrical tubes has been shown to reduce the initial buckling load of axially crushed members. In the present note beams are chosen to investigate the effect of grooving on buckling. Groove depth is found to have a stronger influence on buckling than groove length. Applications to both PVC tubes and laminate composites with local kinking are discussed. [References: 9]
