Two new coordination polymers, [Pb(phen) _2(dans)] _n (1) and [Pb(4, 4'-bipy)(dans)] n (2) (dans = disodium 4, 4'-dinitrostilbene-2, 2'-disulfonate, phen = 1, 10-phenanthroline and 4, 4'-bipy = 4, 4'-bipyridyl) were synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, thermogravimetry, IR spectroscopy, and X-ray single crystal diffraction. Compound 1 is a 1D chain with Pb-O bond lengths in the range of 2.76 to 2.90 ?,. The structure of 2 is a three-dimensional (3D) framework with (4 ~4·6 ~(10)·8)(3·4 ~3· 5 ~2)(4 ~3·6 ~3) topology.
