The crystal structure of the originally described EuMg5 [1] was redetermined by Erassme and Lueken [2] as EuMg5,2 NOW, after very long temper time of mixtures of the elements with this composition crystals could be isolated, which crystallize in the former described metric; three Eu-Atoms form in (100) an equilateral triangle sourrounded cagelike by 23 Mg-atoms: 6x2 Mg-atoms form common edges, which connect the cages parallel (100). 2x3 Mg-atoms connect with 2x3 cages in the [001]-direction; so this arrangement may be described with Eu3Mg2Mg3Mg12/2Mg6/2 according to Eu3Mg14. This arrangement forms channels in the [001]-direction which are occupied additionally with 1 to 1.7 Mg-atoms in 00z layers in a statistical manner. [References: 5]
