Usually, consumption of steam coal and, accordingly, domestic demand forthe material fall at the beginning of Q2 in the CIS thereby depressing prices.This year, however, suppliers took advantage of favourable conditions in theglobal market (following the flood in Australia and the consequent reductionin supplies, steam coal prices soared) and raised the prices in late March tokeep them unchanged in April.
