Letter to the Editor: Autologous hair transplantation has been widely used for the treatment of alopecia, especially an-drogenetic alopecia and scarring alopecia. There have been several different kinds of hair transplantation methods including minigraft, follicular unit graft, and single hair follicle graft. During the past decade, several instruments have been developed in hair transplantation surgery. In Korea, hair transplantation surgery is very popular and an instrument called a hair transplanter with several diameters has been used for hair transplantation. Although it is simple and easy to use, it has some limitations; when a hair transplanter is inserted close to previously transplanted grafts, the downward pressure of the hair transplanter on the skin may force the previously placed graft to pop out of its site, especially when a large-diameter transplanter is used for scarring alopecia. Popping could be avoided only by increasing the distance between graft recipient sites, which then actually decreased the number of grafts that could be transplanted in each session. To improve the quality of a hair transplanter, we previously developed a new instrument called the multichannel hair transplanter, which can insert several grafts into the recipient sites simultaneously.
