摘要

Mohs micrographic surgery tissue-processing techniques vary widely,1^* yet all aim to produce quality sections of tissue that allow viewing of 100% of the peripheral and deep margins in the same plane. One-piece, 360? processing necessitates that relaxing incisions be cut in the specimen's surface to allow the epidermis (peripheral margin) to be pulled down into the same plane as the deep margin. Relaxing incisions can be made in vivo or on a cutting board in the laboratory using a scalpel blade. First-stage whole pieces of periocular skin, penile skin, or skin with marked dermal atrophy (as in chronically photodamaged skin) present many challenges during specimen processing. These tissue layers are often small (< 5 mm wide and < 1 mm deep) to preserve as much normal tissue as possible. There is considerable pressure to obtain perfect, complete sections without cutting deep into the specimen.
