A mixture of 5,17-dibromo-25,27-dimethoxy-26,28-dihydroxy-calix[4]arene [1] (1.00 g, 1.64 mmol),NaH (1.50 g, 31.26 mmol), Mel (10.00 g, 70.47 mmol), DMF (5 mL) and THF (100 mL) was refluxed for 24 h and then cooled to room temperature. After evaporation of the solvent the mixture was taken up in chloroform and washed with water, The organic layer was dried with Na2SO4, and MeOH was added to obtain the pure product as a white solid (yield 0.88 g, 86 %).
