A case of probable gynandromorphism is reported for the Black Redstart. The bilateral gynadromorph was female coloured on the right side and male on the left. The gynandromorphic individual displayed normal male territorial and sexual behaviour. It apparently fathered five young, which fledged successfully. The caryotypic status of the bird remained undetermined. This observation of a plumage mosaic supports the hypothesis that delayed plumage maturation in the Black Redstart may be determined genetically rather than hormonally.
