A common coating defect is the appearance of a relatively thick bead or band along the edges of a panel or metal part. This defect is called fat edge or picture framing.Fat edges are common in flow and dip coating, but the defect is much more widespread and can occur with other applications such as spraying, roll coating and even electrodeposition. In the case of flow and dip coating,gravity-driven flow may cause paint to be thicker on lower areas of the coated part, particularly at the bottom edge. This may be due to inability of excess paint to drip off before it dries or it may be a form of sagging.
