Cochrane quantitative systematic review without metaanalysis. It is known that in clinical situations, recommended practice is not always followed. Different interventions have been trialled to ensure that recommended practice is carried out at the point of care, including educational initiatives, audit and feedback, financial incentives and reminders. Provider reminders at the point of care are a promising strategy to close the gap between recommended and routine practice. These reminders prompt clinicians to recall relevant information or provide decision support. Reminders may be paper-based or computer-based. Computer-based reminders are automatic and have the ability to address multiple topics. This review concerned reminders generated at the point of care, specifically reminders embedded in electronic medical records or computerized provider entry systems, which alert or prompt clinicians with relevant information at the time they are performing the task.
