摘要

Non-platinum tumor-inhibiting metal and organometallic complexes have gained increasing interest in recent years. One promising approach is the coordination of organometallic fragments to bioactive molecules. Pyrones are known for their bioavailability, favorable toxicity profile and high affinity towards metal ions. This intensively studied ligand system can be easily converted to the respective thiopyrone which offer a potential S,O coordination motif. It has already been shown that thiopyrone-based Ru(II) complexes provide an increased stability under physiological conditions and a different biomolecule interaction profile compared to the pyrone analogues. In addition, these organometallics exhibit promising cytotoxicity in vitro [1,2] and are currently investigated in vivo.
