I appreciate Dr. Al-Qattan's efforts to alert us to the complications of Artecoll injections.1 Nevertheless, I must highlight the fact that in none of his 3 cases was there scientific evidence or conclusive proof that Artecoll was indeed injected. Plastic surgeons are too well aware from the era of silicone injections that anything can be injected by anyone for money. Many chemicals have been injected into patients who believed that it was medical-grade silicone, and what was injected was anything from paraffin to industrial-grade silicone. Injections may be done in other countries, and need not be done by qualified medical personnel.
