摘要

We report the development of a local healthcare associated infection prevalence survey method-ology that uses multivariate adjustment and funnel plots to facilitate benchmarking of local survey results against Scottish National HAI Prevalence Survey data. The tool provides robust and consistent results that can be used to inform infection control strategy.Healthcare associated infections (HCAI) are a continuing and significant problem in hospitals worldwide and contribute significantly to morbidity and mortality in the hospital population. HCAI are distressing to patients and their families and may impact on the quality of life and earning potential of the patient. A national HCAI prevalence survey undertaken in Scotland in 2005/2006 reported that 9.5% of patients in acute hospitals had an HCAI at the time of the survey (Reilly et al, 2007). The costs were estimated to be ?3 million per year.
