The densities of alkali silicate glasses are reported. The composition was varied over an exceptionally wide range of values from J = 0.0-2.2 (0-69 mol.% alkali oxide), where J is the molar ratio of alkali oxide to silica. These new results, along with previously reported literature data are used in a unified density model based on the short range order determined from nuclear magnetic resonance and Raman spectroscopies.
