This paper discusses the layouts of the optical systems that have been published for holographic collimator sights. Special attention is paid to the layout of a sight based on the use of a multifunction holographic optical element of a relief-phase reflective holographic grating constructed on a concave spherical surface. The requirements imposed on the spatial carrier frequencies of the grating and the hologram that forms the image of a stationary sighting mark are formulated. The results of a study of a laboratory prototype of a sight are presented. High transmittance of the sight, exceeding 85% in the visible region of the spectrum, has been achieved in the target-observation channel. (C) 2015 Optical Society of America.
