Sathasivam and Lecky's clinical review of statin induced myopathy did not include the important genomewide study that resulted from SEARCH (study of the effectiveness of additional reductions in cholesterol and homocysteine) and was published online on 23 July and in print on 21 August 2008. The genomewide study showed a single strong association of myopathy with a single nucleotide polymorphism on chromosome 12 which regulates the hepatic uptake of statins. More than 60% of the cases of myopathy in SEARCH could be attributed to the variant.
