摘要

Obtaining adequate nutritional intake can be a complex issue for people living with chronic illness due to the many physical, psychological and social factors associated with illness. Nutrition has been defined as 'A process or series of processes by which the living grganism as a whole (or its component parts or organs) is maintained in its normal condition of life and growth' (http://www.ventria.com/ glossary.asp). This broader definition however is not reflected in the health literature where the focus has been primarily on food intake. The terms malnutrition and under-nutrition have been used interchangeably in the literature and there are differing definitions of them according to the varying institutions, disciplines and cultures.
