In discussing flu vaccine in the over 65s, Jordan and Hawker say that there is "knowledge that the vaccine is effective and cost effective."1 They do not give a reference-hardly surprising in view of the many reservations and caveats they express about available studies. Almost all of them are observational studies with their attendant risks of bias and exaggeration. Some make incredible claims for the vaccine-for example, a year round 50% reduction in ail cause mortality.
