Many pain clinicians and scientists are able to influence policy that impacts pain care and research. And many of us periodically find ourselves contacting and educating local policy makers about pain through written communications, telephone calls, and face-to-face meetings. Such interactions can influence pain care policy, and that can profoundly affect how pain management is practiced and how it is recognized on political, legislative, and regulatory agendas.Many pain investigators and clinicians serve on boards of directors and policy committees of their scientific and professional societies and in those capacities meet with staff of members of Congress to discuss the policy agendas of their respective societies. Those meetings provide excellent opportunities to utilize some excellent new resources developed by the American Pain Foundation (APF) to help presenters in their interactions with the policy makers.To help all of us become more effective pain advocates and to help us elevate the awareness and sense of urgency among various policy makers surrounding pain management issues, the American Pain Foundation (APF) has developed new online resources, including
