As Professor Rowley said in the introduction to the Framework for Casting Standards: 'It is the inherent complexity of casting hidden behind the apparently simple action of envelpping a limb in a splint that belies the serious dangers of this procedure being performed badly. Most importantly patients having casts applied must be treated safely and carefully so that their management is ultimately to as high a standard as possible' (RCN/ SON, 2000).
