Transition metal complexes containing bidentate O,O donor ligand,i.e.3-[3-(4-chloro-phenyl)-4-hydroxy-6-methyl-pyran-2-one derived from 3-acetyl-6-methyl-pyran-2,4(3H)-dione(dehydroacetic acid)and p-chlorobenzaldehyde,have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis,conductometry,thermal analysis,magnetic,IR,~1H NMR,UV-Vis,X-ray diffraction and fungicidal study.Prom the analytical and thermal data,the stoichiometry of the complexes has been found to be 1:2(metal:ligand).Distorted octahedral geometry for Cu~(II)complex and octahedral geometries for Mn~(II),Fe~(III),Co~(II)and Ni~(II)complexes are proposed.The kinetic parameters(n,E,A,DELTA S and AG)from thermal analysis,for the Fe~(III)and Ni~(II)complexes have been estimated.The X-ray diffraction suggests monoclinic crystal system for Fe~(III)and Cu~(II)complexes.The ligand and their metal complexes have been screened in vitro for their antifungal activities against Aspergillus flavus,Curvularia lunata and Penicillium notatum.
