Methanolic solution of [V~(IV)O(acac)2] reacts with equivalent amount of benzoyl hydrazone of 2-hydroxyacetophenone and its 5-substituted derivatives (H2L~(1-4), general abbreviation H2L) in presence of excess imidazole (im) to afford the (imH)~+ [VO2(L)]~- (1-4) complexes. Complexes are diamagnetic and 1 : 1 electrolytic in nature. They exhibit catalytic activity in the aerial oxidation of L-ascorbic acid and undergo reversible protonation reaction. 8-Hydroxyquinoline (Hhq) converts these dioxo complexes to monooxo [V~VO(L)(hq)] complexes.
