Advances and synergy of high-pressure sciences at synchrotron sources

摘要

High-pressure research in geosciences, materials science andcondensed matter physics at synchrotron sources is experi-encing growth and development through synergistic effortsaround the world. A series of high-pressure science workshopswere organized in 2008 to highlight these developments. Oneof these workshops, on 'Advances in high-pressure scienceusing synchrotron X-rays', was held at the NationalSynchrotron Light Source (NSLS), Brookhaven NationalLaboratory, USA, on 4 October 2008. This workshop wasorganized in honour of Drs Jingzhu Hu and Quanzhong Guoin celebration of their retirement after up to 18 years ofdedicated service to the high-pressure community as beamlinescientists at X17 of NSLS. Following this celebration of theoften unheralded role of the beamline scientist, a special issueof the Journal of Synchrotron Radiation on Advances andSynergy of High-Pressure Sciences at Synchrotron Sources wasproposed, and we were pleased to invite contributions fromcolleagues who participated in the workshop as well as otherswho are making similar efforts at synchrotron sourcesworldwide.
