A 5.5-year-old Miniature Horse stallion was presented for dental evaluation. A retained deciduous cap (608) was detected and subsequently extracted. A unilateral left nasal discharge was noted 7-days following surgery. The horse was administered metronidazole for 3-weeks. The nasal discharge recurred 10-days following completion of antimicrobial therapy. Empirical antimicrobial therapy (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim 15.0 mg/kg PO, BID X 14 days) was reinstituted. The nasal discharge again recurred following antimicrobial therapy.
