摘要

Malignant melanotic tumors are just as common as squamous cell carcinoma in the oral cavity of dogs. They both occur in older dogs with an average age of 8.8-years for squamous cell carcinoma and a mean age of 11.0-years in dogs with melanoma.' The relative risk of developing melanoma with increasing age is greater compared with either carcinoma or fibrosarcoma. There is no apparent breed predilection for oral squamous cell carcinoma, however Cocker Spaniels have an increased risk for oral melanoma. The light microscopic features and immunohistcohemical profiles of both neoplasms have been extensively described. Only two case reports in the veterinary literature have described a cutaneous benign tumor with features of both melanoma and acanthoma.
