A 10-year-old, maleeutered Dachshund dog was presented for a comprehensive oral health assessment and treatment (COHAT). The patient had received professional teeth cleaning procedures, but the latest was 3-years previously. A physical examination excluding the oral cavity was performed on the patient and considered normal. Initial oral examination revealed a normal occlusion with gingival index of II, calculus index of III, and plaque index of III. The dog was not on any current medication other than a combination heartworm and flea preventive. The dog was fed a commercial dry food. Home dental care was not provided by the owner.
