摘要

Manilagrass was oversown with cool-season turfgrasses to examine the suitability of these species for winter oversowing or planting in mixtures with manilagrass for producing a year-round turf. Turf quality and percentage of manilagrass in the mixture were estimated monthly for 2 years. Creeping bentgrass (Agrostis stolonifera cv. Penncross) and rough bluegrass (Poa trivialis cv. Sabre) were not suitable for either purpose. Creeping red fescue (Festuca rubra subsp. rubra cv. Ensylva), hard fescue (Festuca longifolia cv. Triana) and Chewing fescue (Festuca rubra subsp. commutata [F. nigrescens] cv. Tatjana) were suitable for winter oversowing, but it took 3 months with hard fescue and 6 months with the others for regrowth of manilagrass to providea satisfactory cover during the summer. Kentucky bluegrass (Poa pratensis cv. Victa), tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea cv. Falcon) and perennial ryegrass (Lolium perenne cv. Pinnacle) were appropriate for producing a year-round turf. However, manilagrassdid not provide enough coverage until middle of the summer. As such, manilagrass benefits the sward for only 2-3 months.
