摘要

Development of improved grass cultivars has provided the southern half of the USA with some of its most important pasture grasses. Resistance to larvae of the fall armyworm, Spodoptera frugiperda, has been found in several grasses, including bermudagrass (Cynodon spp.), centipedegrass (Eremochloa ophiuroides), and zoysiagrass (Zoysia spp.). Eighty-one Paspalum spp. were investigated for resistance to larvae of the fall armyworm. Very high levels of antibiosis were discovered in PI 404468 (Paspalummodestum) and PI 442872 (Paspalum scrobiculatum). Fall armyworm larvae that were fed P. modestum (PI 404468) or P. scrobiculatum (PI 442872) were significantly smaller at 9 d (16 and 13 mg, respectively) than larvae that were fed other species of Paspalum, and larvae reared on diet containing these two grass genotypes failed to develop to pupation.
