Four organic arsenical herbicides, MSMA, DSMA, CMA (calcium methane arsonate) and MAMA, were evaluated for control of Henry's crabgrass (Digitaria adscendens [D. ciliaris]) and phytotoxicity to bermudagrass turf (Cynodon dactylon) when applied at equal rates of active ingredient in field trials conducted at Honolulu. Treatments with each material were one application of 2.2 kg a.i./ha, one application of 3.4 kg a.i./ha, and 3 weekly applications of 2.2 kg a.i./ha. DSMA was less effective in controlling crabgrass than the other organic arsenicals evaluated. Phytotoxicity was low with all herbicides and turf recovered shortly after herbicide application.
