Asked about the ICCO's planned conference on cocoa, health and nutrition, Dr Vingerhoets explained that during the June meetings of ICCO, the Promotion Committee appointed a Steering Committee for the preparation of the conference, A professional co-ordinator started work on July 1st and, in the meantime, preparatory work has been completed related to possible dates, a venue (most probably in London), subjects to be covered, and potential speakers. "We will take advantage of the recent research workon health benefits of cocoa by inviting the best researchers in the world, people who are in the forefront of the ongoing research efforts," Dr Vingerhoets explained. "This includes research on flavonols, obesity and metabolic syndrome, and subjects such as fats in cocoa. The conference is to be 'top class,' fully utilising state-of-the-art knowledge, without going into speculative results. Only solid findings are to be presented to the audience."
