Just twelve months into a new job as head of the University of Queensland's Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining, former CJC Research Director, Professor David Brereton says the critical issue confronting the mining industry is how to translate high level policy commitments into improved social and environmental performance. David is concerned with how the people on the ground-such as mining managers-will be required to work within an cost effective framework to deal with and report social risks attached to mining operations.
