摘要

Finding effective ways to retain newly graduated registered nurses (RNs) is of paramount importance to organisations that employ them, because RN turnover is costly (Jones, 2008) and it can contribute to suboptimal staffing, which is associated with negative patient outcomes (Kane et al., 2007). The estimated replacement cost for each RN who leaves an organisation can range from USDollars 82,000 to USDollars 88,000 (Jones, 2008). This cost may be higher for replacing newly graduated RNs, as they consume more organisational resources to orient and transition to independent practice than their more experienced counterparts.
