Viburnum tinus (cultivars Eve Price and Macrophylla) and V. opulus (both sterile and fertile plants) were grown in Italy under 2 regimes of photoperiod during February-April 1997 and 1998. Photoperiod under natural winter conditions was compared toa photoperiod extended by 4 h from 21 February to 1 April. No major differences in growth were found. Temporary covering with a tunnel resulted in earlier and more abundant flowering in sterile V. opulus. Results are also presented of a comparison of 10cultivars in 1997. Apart from V. plicatum cv. Pink Beauty, all cultivars performed well with luxuriant blossom in the 2nd year after transplanting.
