Market-gardening in the Italian region of Sarno has been investigated to compare crops (lettuce, tomato, capsicum and beans) and production costs, which are detailed for 1997. Price trends throughout the season are indicated. The study shows that lettuce production under shelter is not a profitable option; capsicum and beans are more profitable than tomatoes, but vulnerability to fungal attack reduces the attractiveness of this crop.
