摘要

MgAl_2O_4 powder was synthesized by heating a mixture sample consisting of Al_2O_3 and MgCl_2 (1:10 molar ratio). Two types of Al_2O_3 materials were used; #alpha#-Al_2O_3 platelets and #gamma#-Al_2O_3 powder. When the mixture consisting of #alpha#-Al_2O_3 platelets and MgCl_2 was heated at 750 deg C for 2 h, the #alpha#-Al_2O_3 platelets completely changed to 1-2 #mu#m MgAl_2O_4 grains with high crystallinity and a polyhedral shape such as a pentahedron or an octahedron. When the mixture consisting of #gamma#-Al_2O_3 powder and MgCl_2 was heated at 750 deg C for 2 h, the formation reaction of MgAl_2O_4 was completed, but its crystallinity was low. After heating the mixture at 1000 deg C for 2 h, MgAl_2O_4 powder with high crystallinity was formed. Most of the grains had a polyhedral shape of 3-4 #mu#m size and they attained a maximum size of 10 #mu#m.
